A box lay here for the months Oscar gave me sanctuary: you can just see the outline of it on the floor. It came in a rush, only later me realizing it was cans, mostly soup. The top was the tray we’d used for over the counter meds and vitamins, or those that were mine: Freddy’s cough syrup, antihistamine, barf stopper. Precious behind the counter pills too: antibiotics of common and exotic flavor, antifungals, antiparasitics, steroids, tempting things ending in -codone.
They all sat here, in this box, in this spot. Now the box is in storage with all my other worldly possessions, storage being another box, but big enough to walk in.
I am grateful to have had a place for my box.
